There are some exciting things that have occurred in the Shumway household as of late. I thought I would dedicate one short blog post to update everyone on these things.
Warning: if you are not a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the following piece of news might sound confusing to you. Please feel free to ask me any questions about the terms I'm using. So, with that said, our Stake has recently changed a few things. Ward boundaries have been changed and a new ward was added. We are no longer members of the Deseret Peak Ward. That is very hard for us. We love the members of the Deseret Peak Ward and will miss them terribly. But, we also know this change is inspired and have felt excited to be a part of our new ward, the Grantsville 6th ward. This ward was already in our Stake, but now it is made up of parts of five other wards, so it is essentially a new ward :). Now, for the really exciting part, Joseph was called to be the 2nd COUNSELOR in the bishopric!!! It has been a wonderful change that has already blessed our family! I'm having a hard time accepting that he is now going to be sitting on the stand during Sacrament Meetings on Sunday, because he won't be able to help with the girls, specifically Nora :). It will be fine, though. Already other families are helping me out. Also, I have been called to teach the Gospel Doctrine Sunday School class. I love to teach, but definitely have apprehensions about teaching both the women and men together. It will be a nice little challenge for me that I think will help me grow in a lot of ways. So fun!
Another piece of exciting news is that Joseph's band, Kindle Creek, WON the State Texaco Country Showdown Competition at the State Fair last Friday night!!! We are SOOO excited!!! This means that they go on to the regional competition in Oregon in early November. If When they win there, they are off to nationals in Nashville!!! WOOOHOOO!!!!! I'm so proud of Joseph and the guys. They are AMAZING! The following pictures of the State competition were taken by the drummer's wife, Michelle Jensen. Thanks Michelle! My camera just turned out dark and blurry pictures :(.
Lastly, we had a nice time bringing in the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah. We ate apples and honey and tried to blow the Shofar (rams horn). Man, I don't know how those guys blow it so well and so clear in synagogue. Next year we would like to start the tradition of throwing pieces of bread in a stream or river to represent casting off our sins.
Shanah Tovah everyone! May you be blessed with a wonderful and sweet year!

Wow Arit! That is exciting! Gosh, where does the time go? Seriously awesome though. What a wonderful family you and Joseph are creating! Love you <3
Exciting things happening for sure! I will be prayin for your patience while you are in church with the girls while Joseph is on the stand :) There is a lady in my ward (her kids are older now) that used to "practice" church time at hoime everyday untill her kids could sit reverently without any toys. It's a thought.... Love you.
I love that you teach your children of your Jewish Heritage. Nora looks so cute trying to blow the horn. I love to read about the Jewish life and the foods they eat and their everyday living.
