Anthon's Third Birthday!

This boy!!! My cutie petootie turned THREE! I love this Monkey Noodle so much! "Monkey" because he climbs on everything and is the most daring and fearless boy I know. "Noodle" because he is also one of the the most flexible kids I know. He flops around and bends in ways that I would think are uncomfortable and even impossible, but he acts completely unaffected :).

Anthon is obsessed with dinosaurs. Funny, because Joseph was (still is) obsessed with them. Didn't know interests were genetic ;). Anthon can already name several dinosaurs. He even knows parasaurolophus :). Some times he asks me the name of a dinosaur in a book or picture and I have no clue what it is. Then we ask Joseph and get an immediate answer. I'm pretty sure my husband knows the name and characteristics of every dinosaur that has ever been discovered! Seriously, he was a fanatic, in a cute way :). Needless to say, Jurassic Park books and movies are some of his favorites. Anthon is still a little too young for them. We will stick with The Good Dinosaur and such for now. I did make him a simple dinosaur cake. I think it turned out pretty cute and Anthon was super excited about the "baby T-rex" on top.

Our little Anthon is definitely a character and a HUGE ball of energy! He loves to do things that make us laugh, and when we do laugh, he has to ham it up some more. He is one strong and DETERMINED boy! Anthon does not take no for an answer. Seriously, he doesn't get the word "no." It is either give him what he wants or expect a great big tantrum that won't stop for hours. We usually try to put up with the latter. He doesn't give up, though, so getting him distracted or interested in something else is pretty difficult. He'll get it... eventually... right??

Anthon and I had such a fun little photo shoot on our front steps the other day. I'm telling you, this boy loves to ham it up. I'm surprised I got so many with him holding still enough for me to get some good pictures. Anthon loves attention. He loves being held, being read to, getting rides, getting dirty, eating sweets, watching movies, being silly, animals, playing with his sisters, playing with his cousins, and is even really good at independent play. He has a lot of small little toys, mostly animals, that he loves to act out scenes with. They mostly involve someone about to fall or getting hurt that needs help from someone else. It is fun to hear his little voice as he plays on his own, "Ahh! Oh, are u hurt? Let me hep u!" :)

Oh, and we got a new puppy!!! She was an early birthday present for Anthon, but is basically our family dog :). Her name is Clara Lavender Shumway. The girls named her. Clara comes from The Nutcracker, one of the their favorite Christmas stories. And Nora liked Lavender, for the song Lavender Blue from the new Cinderella movie. Plus her collar is purple. She is a pure bred lab. Her owner, a good friend of mine, gave me a pedigree chart that goes back to her four great-grandparents!! We pretty much adore her. Just need to teach her not to nip, and need to teach Anthon to be softer with her, haha. She seems like she will be a quick learner, though. The kids (and I) have wanted a puppy for a while, but Joseph is not a pet person. He prefers the farm animals and pets being outside. Showing him a couple pictures of Clara and promising that the kids and I will take care of her and that she will be an outside dog convinced Joseph to let us get her, haha :). Now he is falling in love! Fanny and Nora really are good at feeding her and getting her water. They earn money for it, but actually really enjoy doing it. They all really love to play with her and I'm enjoying working with her to learn some tricks and not nip and bite so much. Teething puppies!! She is just so cute!!!

Anthon carrying his bike up the stairs. Strong and determined! Anthon already knows his letters really well. He loves to stop and read letters whenever he sees them on books, signs, posters, etc. He even knows the sounds they make. He is finally getting his colors, too. We were concerned that he might be color blind, really, but he is not. He is pretty good at shapes and numbers as well. Not potty trained yet. He has no interest. I got him to pee in the potty once! I think we are getting closer. Been my hardest one yet. Fanny at least had no problem peeing in the potty, but never wanted to go #2 in it. Nora took one day to potty train just after she turned two. Anthon doesn't want anything to do with the potty. What makes it hard is that he NEVER holds still when I'm trying to change his diaper. Because he is so strong, sometimes this is a real challenge for me :). Got to get this kid potty trained!!!

I love this boy's smile! He is my sweet, energetic, handsome boy and I absolutely adore him!

Happy Birthday Anthon! Video of him getting sung to and blowing out his candles with his cousin Trevis, who is just a day older than Anthon.
