On the morning of February 2nd I woke up thinking, "Holy smokes! It's Groundhog Day!" Trying to quickly create something fun for my girls to do to enlighten them about the holiday, I decided to make a groundhog den for them. I mean, how fun would it be to act like groundhogs, come out of our den, then run back inside when we see our shadows?! What a great way to teach kids about the day and why, or why not, we have 6 more weeks of winter.
Here was our first den. It was NOT very effective, to say the least.
So, I had a brilliant idea to set up this totally awesome groundhog den!
Of course, if you are going to be in a den, you HAVE to have a picnic and tea party.
And, why not a nap, too. Fanny insisted the "tasty treat" be right next to her while she pretended to nap. Mmm, my kind of napping!!
The girls have been so funny lately. They have been up to A LOT. I don't have time for a full update, but one of the highlights is that Fanny is now fully potty trained!!!!! Yes, that is right, she is going pee AND poo in the potty!!! Her incentives to poop in the potty are pretty big, though, which has really helped. She goes poop about every other day now. HUGE sigh of relief!! At least she won't be 12 by the time she gets the potty training thing down, which was my fear :). The great thing is, she seems more happy!
Fanny and Nora are now playing a lot together. They go downstairs where they have a bunch of toys and will play down there for long amounts of time. It is fun to hear all the giggles and silliness from upstairs. I have no idea what they do, but they are entertained, so I'm happy! Nora wants to do everything Fanny does. She adores her big sister. She also chats up a storm. Her intonations are so cute. Watch out for tantrums, though. When this girl gets mad, she gets MAD!
Another thing they are both doing lately is dancing. I know that is not new, but it is the way they do it. I taught Fanny how to play the different recorded songs on the piano. Not actually play the piano keys, but push play so a certain prerecorded classical piece comes on. She loves to play a song and then the girls dance together. Nora goes around in a circle and Fanny runs around her. Here they are dancing to a song on Joseph's phone:
