I DID IT!!! I made the most wonderful little gourmet morsel of absolute goodness! I made French Macarons!!! This was no easy feet. I watched several demonstrations and read several websites until I felt confident enough to begin. Making French Macarons is a very delicate and sensitive process. Some sites I looked over said things like, "My ninth batch was the one that turned out just right." Yay for me, my first batch was an absolute success! I don't mean to brag, but the is a major accomplishment for me. Ever since my sister, Avriel, mentioned the very existence of French Macarons to me last year, I've been hooked on these little treats. I tried my first one when Joseph brought me home a box of them, just because he loves me, from Le Bon Vie, a little French candy shop in The Grand Hotel in downtown SLC. After my first unforgettable bite, I was determined to figure out how to make them. When I looked up the recipe online, I became very hesitant. They seemed complicated. Several sites even had long lists of troubleshooting tips. But, I studied, bought the ingredients, picked a perfect day (when Joseph would be home so he could help watch the girls while I worked in the kitchen), and I began the process.
The batter. It has to rest on the counter for so long before going into the oven.
Yay! Perfection! No cracks on top and "feet" on the bottom!
Playing with flavors and colors. I made vanilla with chocolate ganache filling, cherry with chocolate ganache, and pink lemonade with lemon buttercream frosting. Perfect to give away for Valentines Day.
If you want to try making your own French Macarons I would suggest doing a lot of reading. It helped me a great deal to have such a vast knowledge before starting. I used this website for the recipe and step by step instructions: http://www.giverslog.com/?p=1089. But I referred to the following website for many troubleshooting tips: http://bravetart.com/recipes/Macarons. There are other great links on that page that have some great advice, too. Mind you, these two sites were the ones I used while baking. It really helps to watch some videos of the process and reading other sites for more tips.
Happy macaroning!
Have you ever seen anything so lovely?!
