Shapes

You are probably wondering, "What in the world is that a picture of?" That is a picture of a section in our house where the tile meets the carpet. A couple weeks ago I was in the living room when I heard Fanny say, "Triangle. Square." Curious as to what she was looking at I came over to see her studying what you see above. I don't know much about child development or what most children should know by what age, but to pick out shapes in tile sounds pretty advanced to me for an almost two year old!

For the longest time we have been reading to Fanny a book about basic shapes. It is one of her favorites. I also made play-dough a while ago and would help Fanny use cookie cutters in the shapes of a circle, triangle, square and star to cut out the play-dough with. Now she picks out shapes everywhere around her. Not only did she recognize a triangle and square in the tile, but she will see shapes in all sorts of things around the house and outside. She is such a little genius!

Just as a side note, Fanny is also learning her colors very well. She has markers and crayons for the bathtub that she loves to play with and says the colors of every time she uses them. She also enjoys coloring in coloring books with crayons and on the side walk with chalk.
